Lucky (poem)

Poetry

Fortune in the form of a cat,
Slink into your life to bestow a gift.
Pounce and kill those who hurt you,
Licking wounds with her scratchy tongue.

Let me bat away your worries,
Listen to my purrs instead.
Dig my claws into your chest,
Massage the aching heart beneath.

Show me care and I’ll teach you,
How to see and feel the divine.
Love me and feed your spirit,
That energy that lingers after death.

Cats choose their humans,
Only our bodies can be held captive.
Make us happy to bring luck,
The bounties of fulfillment await.

Nature (poem)

Poetry

I go to nature,
To heal.
Mother Earth rocks me,
With her gentle rhythms.

Solitude in my womb,
Replenish lost energy.
Expansive air fills me,
Stretch the vessel encasing me.

Truth outside of conditioning,
Found in biological forms.
Emotion must follow nature,
Reason guides behavior.

Quell my rage,
Center my soul.
Anger sharp as a knife,
Protection in the world of man.

Soulmate (poem)

Poetry

Red string of fate,
Tied to our thumbs.
Common roots of suffering,
Echo across the universe.

Ghosts embedded in flesh,
Erupt under touch.
Embracing through ghoulish screams,
Finding refuge in the other’s body.

Each kiss that lands,
Our souls creep closer.
Activating catalyst,
Collision burning bright.

Nest of dancing flames,
Settle into chaos.
Mews of our brood,
Interspecies love babies.

Alone all our lives,
Imagining your existence.
Living in your heart,
Soothe me with your presence.

Bite your chin to warn you,
Not to leave me again.
I’ve waited for eternity,
To have your warmth at night.

Past lives prepared us,
Separate journeys to arrive.
Splitting of a nucleus,
In time finally combined.

Fire (poem)

Poetry

Feeding pages,
Edges curl.
Blackness spreads,
Ink spill on paper.

Coaxing, teasing,
Playful seduction.
Invite to touch,
Promising warmth.

Forests blaze,
Candles burn.
Fuel for growth,
Limitless potential.

Cleansing destruction,
Harness its power.
Overgrown suffocation,
Smoke breathing free.

Ashes remain,
All else inconsequential.
Clearing space,
Floating up to the sky.

Seen (poem)

Poetry

Eyes turned away,
In fear or disgust.
Affirmation of my taint,
My poisoned existence.

Battered by life,
Abused by the best.
Reality’s brutalities,
Harden on my skin.

Truth in pills,
Tough to swallow.
Medication overdose,
Prone minds and emotions.

Reflecting the hurt,
Wounds and scars unseen.
Dare to meet my eyes,
Lift my invisibility.

Horror (poem)

Poetry

Sublimate our fears,
Give shape to the monsters.
Shadow behaviors,
Illuminated on screen.

The world holds danger,
It even lives at home.
Survival situations,
Heroines lead the way.

When it all goes topsy-turvy,
Where will you turn?
We’ve lived this before,
Past lives in scenarios.

When you can’t call, “Cut!”
The actors keep pretending.
Trapped in a screenplay,
The horror is real.

Baby (poem)

Poetry

Gestate in my womb,
Constructed by my body.
Form taking shape,
Nose framed by long whiskers.

Stick figure limbs,
Slinky soft body.
Floppy and mushy,
Most fragile miracle.

Take after me,
Raised to be independent.
But able to connect,
Even beyond me.

Meaning given purpose,
Extinguishment exquisite.
So long as she lives,
I’ll live to care for her.

Shutter (poem)

Poetry

Sensitive to light,
Watering without volition.
But the warmth of the sun,
Soothing the eyes.

Taken for granted,
Nightfall comes quickly.
Cold breeze blows through,
Still clarity of moonlight.

Expect next day’s rising,
But stars give no guarantees.
Vastness of the cosmos,
Dependent planetary systems.

Supernova explosion,
Silent in destruction.
Sleeping in darkness,
No awakening anticipated.
