Blemish (poem)

Poetry

Mounds mar the landscape,
Needle-prick the ooze.
Squeeze around its edges,
Ugly purged, beauty remains.

Slice a blade,
Across my face.
Skin regrow smooth,
Baby fresh start.

Adolescent insecurity,
Face curtained by hair.
Inner trauma subtly visible,
Roots outgrowing their container.

Wish (poem)

Poetry

Girlish fantasies,
Fanciful in nature.
Dreaming of a world,
That needs no escape.

Love is abundant,
Rolling in riches.
Transcendence universal,
Growing eternal souls.

Dirty gritty streets,
Inescapable struggle.
Beasts of burden labor,
Life beyond survival.

Courage in our hearts,
Flooded and energized by fear.
Beat back the danger,
Protect our salvation.

Family (poem)

Poetry

Atomistic nucleus,
Sealed tight against the world.
Cultivate a cult,
Paternal god as its leader.

Inculcate your values,
Carve impressions in minds.
Tear down and build up,
Constructed in your image.

Birthed out to the world,
Foreign figures encroaching.
Defending the village,
Against invasions of thought.

The entire world,
Our household.
Every living being,
Our family.

Twang (poem)

Poetry

Geographic placement,
Shove you in a box.
Tongue reveals truth,
Even while spinning lies.

Socioeconomic status,
Rural-urban class.
Contextual, prejudicial,
Ideologies attached.

Labeled stupid hick,
Intellect assaulted.
But when running for office,
Folksy and so charming.

Double standards prevail,
White men steal who you are.
Celebrated wearing your skin,
Your flesh reviled and detested.

Blink (poem)

Poetry

Eyes start to water,
Vision becomes blurry.
Misunderstood image,
Camera obscura.

Longing for clarity,
Yet change might emerge.
Loss within the churn,
Halted by anxiety.

Slowly turn blind,
Paralysis in stasis.
Extraneous eyeballs,
Curse of sight.

Shut the eyelids,
Tears stream down.
Dare not look out,
See a new world.
