A screaming corpse,
Persistent aches,
Dead little girls who exist inside me.
Voiceless gasps,
Writhing ghosts,
Raped at birth.
Death before life.
Dominated, subjugated,
Tortured and used.
The girls are dust now.

Your heartbeat races.
A peaceful evening,
But not for you.
Work all day,
Fear at night.
Exhaustion creeps,
But your eyes stay open.
Your body stays rigid,
The glow of the light,
Grows steadily wider,
Until a figure blocks its entrance.
Pretend you’re asleep.
The creature senses movement.
Breath flutters your hair.
Its stench fills your lungs.
If it wants you, it’s over.
The monster always wins.
No guardian to protect you,
From all that stalk the night.
In the sunlight,
Your father.

PoetryShe wobbles when she walks,
Dazed out of her mind.
Her eyes unfocused,
Blurry vision distorts.
Tears silently leak,
Breath caught in her throat.
Hair obscuring her face,
So it won’t choke her again.
A sniffle escapes,
The rips inside her inflame.
Without understanding what happened,
Simple words: “Tummy hurts.”
